Natural, unpasteurized ACV is fermented twice over eighteen months. The first fermentation turns the sugar into alcohol. The second fermentation changes the alcoholic content into acetic acid, which gives the vinegar its taste and some surprising benefits.
Apple Cider Vinegar has been drunk as an experiment in a number of recent medical studies. Here are some of the details but please check with your doctor to be sure acetic acid doesn’t harm any medication you’re taking. Also, always rinse your mouth after drinking a tonic, as the acetic acid harms tooth enamel. I don’t always remember to do this immediately after a meal, but I do brush my teeth every evening.
Lowers blood pressure
This interesting medical study describes how acetic acid in ACV helped reduce blood pressure by lowering “the renin activity”. Renin is an enzyme that helps control your blood pressure, as discussed here.
This study demonstrated that acetic acid effectively reduced cholesterol levels and triglyceride levels in rats. High Triglyceride levels are one of the pointers towards developing atherosclerosis. The study’s hypothesis is that drinking an ACV tonic can clear up narrow, hardened arteries caused by cholesterol plaque buildup and so reduce the energy required for the heart to pump blood, which is what blood pressure reveals.
Lowers blood sugar
This medical study took blood samples from both insulin sensitive and healthy people before and after eating a meal. The experiment checked to see if drinking an ACV tonic before the meal effected their blood. What the study found was that people who had consumed an ACV tonic before their meal had improved insulin sensitivity and reduced blood glucose levels after eating.
The tonic is simple. A shot glass of ACV added to two shot glasses of water.
Supports reducing diets and ketosis
There is scientific evidence that drinking ACV in water supports ketosis by increasing the number of mitochondria in your cells by stimulating a particular metabolic pathway called PGC-l Alpha.
A number of medical studies claim a daily glass of water with at least a tablespoon of ACV, taken over three months, supports body fat reduction and weight loss.

Benefits gut health
Gut Health Benefits: ACV includes prebiotics which help keep your gut healthy by supporting the good bacteria you consume with your food and destroying some of the harmful bacteria that food can contain.
Naturally soothes a sore throat
Both sipping an ACV tonic and gargling with it can help reduce and sometimes relieve the pain of a sore throat. Because this is a natural remedy you don’t have to wait a number of hours before having another sip too.
Drinking a tonic of ACV can’t hurt but any change in your food habits should include checking with your doctor.
